Ferdinand Vanek Award 2017
For the third time did Svět a divadlo theatre magazine announced FERDINAND VANEK AWARD COMPETITION, asking selected European playwrights to prepare new text with the theme „Play on Politics“
Their text sent 12 authors from Czech republic, Hungary, Germany, Norway, Poland, Austria, Russia and Slovakia.
Foremost European authors from Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Russia, Germany, Austria and Norway - Fredrik Brattberg: The Position, Tomáš Dianiška: The Phantom of the Stadium, Varvara Faer: A Breathing Excersise, Tomáš Kafka: Football in Czechia, Anton Medowits: The Treasure, mehdi moradpour: a slow noise of a new people at breakfast, Weronika Murek: Plagues, Przemysław Pilarski, Kathrin Röggla: Programme of the Meeting, S.d.Ch.: The Politics of Groundsman’s Room, Csaba Székely: March Away from Mars! and Michał Walczak: A Girl with Pope – are competing for historically third Ferdinand Vanek Award. The winner will be decided by international jury: Irina Bezrukova (Russia), Joachim Bruss (Germany), Andrzej Jagodzinski (Poland) and Andrej Krob (Czech Republic).
The winner will be announced on November 26th, 2017 at 19:30 at Divadlo v Celetné during so called EVENING FOR THE FERDINAND VANEK AWARD, which will also consist of rehearsed reading of selected text including the winning one. At the same venue, one day later, that is November. 27th, will take place another evening of rehearsed readings of selected called Plays on Politics.

Because Ferdinand Vanek Award is traditionally non-competitive competition, all the authors will be presented with their own award.
Besides Kašpar Theatre (which is planning to take some of the texts into its regular repertory) and Divadlo v Celetné, part in the project took also Teatr Powszechny, who is planning to pick selected authors from the competition for their upcoming international playwright project. Three text from the competition (Walczak, Medowits, Diaiška were also part of project called „48 óra“ (48 hours), which took place in September in Hungarian city of Zsambék: the Hungarian theatre companies were given the texts and had 48 hours to prepare rehearsed reading of it.
